Zhang Songbai, also known as Wenjun and Daodeng, was born in Leshan, Sichuan in October 1949. He is the founder of powder ink painting, an inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of powder ink painting, a promotion ambassador for China's intangible cultural heritage, a member of the National Committee for the Inheritance of Chinese Classics, a national first-level artist, an art consultant for the Culture and Art Committee of the Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association, a special art consultant for China International Education Television, a professional committee member for red culture of the China Geographical Names Society, an honorary president, a special artist for foreign affairs and state guests' gifts in China, a deputy director of the Calligraphy and Painting Art Newspaper of the China Couplet Society, a vice president of the National Gift Calligraphy and Painting Academy, an academic committee member of the Red Flag Fluttering Calligraphy and Painting Academy, an art reviewer and researcher in calligraphy and painting, a director of the Capital Calligraphy and Painting Academy, a visiting professor at the Confucius Art Museum Training Center, and the president of the Emeishan Songbai Painting Academy.
Since 2004, hundreds of representative works of powder ink painting, titled "Portraits of World Celebrities," have been exhibited in major cities such as Chengdu, Guangzhou, Changchun, Shandong, and Zhejiang, and have been well-received by the general public and favored by various memorial halls. What is extremely valuable is that the recognition of the new painting genre of Fenmo Painting is not a self-demonstration without basis, but a cultural merit carefully certified by the China National Intellectual Property Administration! The boundaries between different painting genres mainly differ in terms of materials, tools, and creative techniques. This results in completely different creative methods and exquisite and delicate paintings. It is conducive to the vivid portrayal of human figures, and coupled with the physical properties of black charcoal powder and mineral raw materials, the works possess a precious preservation value that remains fresh for centuries. Since Gu Kaizhi of the Jin Dynasty proposed the figure painting and painting creation curriculum system based on spirit modeling, there have been masters of vivid figure painting throughout history, such as Daozi of the Tang Dynasty, Liang Kai of the Song Dynasty, Ren Bai Nian of the Qing Dynasty, and Xu Beihong and Jiang Zhaohe of modern times, all of whom emphasized vivid figure portrayal.
