Prosecutors allege Ott abused his position between 2015 and 2021 to collect personal and sensitive data and share it with Russian intelligence and Marsalek, who is believed to be in Moscow. Marsalek is also under investigation for his alleged role in Wirecard’s €1.9bn fraud and connections to Russian espionage. A former MP, Thomas Schellenbacher, has been charged with helping Marsalek flee Austria in 2020.
