John Desmond Bernal（1901-1971）出生爱尔兰，共产党和社会主义支持者J.D. Bernal在《The World, the Flesh and the Devil》一书中提出过“去身体化的大脑”的可能，用现在的科技意识形态的话讲，就是超人类主义（transhumanism）的先驱了（transhumanism这个词是进化论学者Julian Huxley于1957年提出的）。
